- Hi Paul,
-
- This is in response to your message on Wed 23 Apr.
-
- No, I have not rehosted the PDL Graphic Ada Designer (GAD) tool to our
- system yet.
-
- With regards to the errors you have encountered while bringing up the tool
- on the Sun, the answers to your problem are mostly in the Section 4 of the
- GAD Technical Information Report (file GADTECH.INF). This section
- discusses in length on how to rehost and retarget the tool.
- The developer, however, has strongly suggested implementors to read the
- entire report prior to rehosting and retargeting the tool, paying special
- attention to Section 2 through 4 of the report.
-
- For a bonus comment, according to the tool documentation, the current MMI
- module of the tool has been designed specifically for the IO operations
- of the VAX Ada Run Time System which are performed by the Record Management
- System (RMS) of the VMS operating system. The documentation also suggests that
- the current version of the GAD Ada source code should rehost to a system
- with an Ada Programming Support Environment and standard ANSI communications
- (RS232). So, I can see, there are an immediate need to modify or rewrite
- several packages in the MMI module, e.g. the "Terminal Access" and "Virtual
- Terminal Interface" packages, etc., in order to accommodate the operation
- of the GAD on a Sun workstation, especially, if it is running UNIX.
-
- I hope this has been some help to you, I'm interested to hear more about
- your efforts in getting the GAD up on your Sun workstation.
